GAPEFIL Awards 2019 Shortlists Underrated Indie Films

BY: Throy Catan

A newly-formed award-winning body called Gawad Pelikula Filipinas (GAPEFIL) 2019 recently announces its nominees worthy of recognition from a harvest of films that were released in local festivals and cinema houses the past year.

One of GAPEFIL’s objectives is to help in the dessimination of information to the mainstream viewing public especially those who skew local films in favor of foreign imports about the great strides being achieved by local filmmakers worthy of emulation, support and patronage.

GAPEFIL will announce its winners on Aug. this year on the occasion of the 17th We Care Int’l. Film Festival – New Delhi, India which will be held here in cooperation with UNESCO, Brotherhood India and support of the Film Dev’t
Council of the Phil. (FDCP).

The nominees in at least 12 categories are as follows:

1. “NEOMANILA”, an unbiased gaze at extra-judicial killings in Metro Manila.
2. “MINDANAO,” for those who think the gravitas and face of Filipino Muslims are virtually absent in broadcast media.
3. “HELLO, LOVE, GOODBYE,” a fresh insightful reprise and far from shopworn look at OFW’s.
