“The prerogative to grant or deny a franchise rests solely on Congress. While we’re here to prove the committee that there is a good reason why our franchise should be renewed, at the end of the day, we respect the rule of law,” sey ni Katigbak.
Unang nai-file ang bill for the renewal of ABS-CBN franchise noong 2014.
And I understand there was only one hearing that was called with regards to our franchise application,” tugon ni Katigbak.
Sinang-ayunan naman ni Rep. Micaela Violago, one of the sponsors of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bill, reinforced the statement of Katigbak.
Violago said there was only hearing conducted at the 16th Congress, which ran from 2013 to 2016. In the 17th Congress from 2016 to 2019, Violago said she filed a bill for the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN but no hearing was conducted.
She said it was only in the current 18th Congress, which began in July 2019, that the committee started the hearings last March 2020.
Dagdag pa ni Katigbak, “I don’t think there’s anything else I can add Mr. Chair except that we did file for the renewal of our franchise application with Congress and unfortunately for us, it was not acted on the 16th and 17th Congress.”
